Business challenge Microsoft faced

Microsoft line of business (LOB) managers faced a near universal business conundrum in today’s connected world: they had too much information and data pouring in on all aspects of the company’s products and product development processes. Yet, they didn’t have any substantive insight into that information and data and, in turn, had no good way to ensure optimal strategic decisionmaking.
Microsoft needed a way to unlock this store of unconnected and unstructured data and bring it all together in a compelling, easy-toconsume platform. Their objective, ultimately, was to enable their LOB teams to leverage all of their data sources and put them into a format that enabled them to gain smart insights and analysis to drive their strategic imperatives.
To address their unique information challenge, Microsoft LOB managers partnered with two companies – Neal Analytics and intelligence architecture for Microsoft’s unique needs. “Microsoft had a very common challenge before its LOB managers,” says Dylan Dias, President of Neal Analytics, a business intelligence and analytics company based in Seattle, WA. “They had plenty of data sets, lots of cubes and data warehouses.
